The
town: Roses is on a coastline full of contrasts, with
cliffs, isolated coves with crystal-clear water and shallow,
fine sand beaches, ideal for families and doing all kinds of
water sports and activities. Near Roses, in Empuriabrava, there
is a flying club giving you the opportunity to try parachute
jumping, go on panoramic flights in a light aircraft and many
other things. There is also a water park as you leave Roses as
well as a go-cart track. Empuriabrava provides night-time
entertainment, with various discos and music bars. So, Roses and
its surrounding area offers you everything you need for a

The Citadel:
A walk around the Citadel area is essential for anyone
visiting Roses. Declared a historic-artistic area in 1961, the
Citadel brings together remains from different eras and
occupations. The military fortification, with the monumental
"Puerta de Mar" [Sea Gate], covers an area of 131,480 m2. It was
built in 1543 in the Renaissance style. Inside there is an
important archaeological site where remains from the Greek city
of Rhodes are found, founded in 776 BC. by the Rhodians; the
Hellenic area, which was most prosperous in the IV and III
Centuries BC; the Roman town, dated between the II Century BC
and VI Century AD; the Roman-Lombard monastery of Saint Mary,
from the XI Century, and the findings from the XIX Century.
The Tourism Department of the Roses Town Council organises free
guided tours.

Aiguamolls de l´Empordá Nature Reserve:
Within Roses there are 4,000 hectares of marshes with
interesting flora and fauna and also a refuge for migrating
birds. 10 km from Roses, between Empuriabrava and St. Pere
Pescador, you will find the information office and the starting
point for many different routes around the observatories.

Roses beach:
The main beach in Roses is divided into three sections: Nova
beach, Rastrell beach and Salatar beach, each separated from the
others by a riverbed. It is 1,790 m long in total and runs from
the river mouth of the Ginjolers river to the Santa Margarida
beach. It is a wide and popular beach, with fine sand and
shallow water, ideal for families and doing water sports. Since
1994 it has been awarded the European Community's Blue Flag for
the quality of the water and sand, as well as the services
